Woke Vote Partners with Work & Co to Activate Low-Propensity Voters
October 15, 2020
With just weeks till the U.S. presidential election, Woke Vote and Work & Co have launched a new website and planning digital tool dedicated to helping to mobilize voters of color.
The new site helps extend Woke Vote’s mission of activating voters and training organizers to mobilize disengaged voters of color and battle against voter suppression. It does this through a multipronged approach, including community efforts and social media.
Designed and developed by Work & Co, vote.wokevote.us lets voters easily check registration status, keep track of essential voter deadlines, and make a plan to vote in one streamlined flow.
“Woke Vote has a history of building trust with folks that have traditionally been let down and people who have less trust of government systems,” said Work & Co Strategy Director Tyesha Snow. “We are building on that trust through an all-in-one digital tool that gives clear guidance for participation to voters who are not only disengaged but facing new challenges due to a pandemic that may impact voter turnout in unforeseen ways.”
Said DeJuana Thompson, Woke Vote Founder: "When we started Woke Vote, it was with the idea our communities have the power to liberate themselves through social and political activism and access. Our goal has been to empower and activate our people for social change by providing them with resources to organize their college campuses, churches, businesses, and their block —all within the incredible lens of culture. The amazing work done by the Work & Co team enhances our effort to equip millions of voters of color across the country with everything they need to use their voice this November.”
By removing noise and consolidating the key information, it’s now easy for voters to understand what their next action is. Features of the site include:
- Clean and simple design that uses colors to convey the urgency
- Guided walk through voter preparation steps
- Asking for a commitment to vote and joining Woke Vote’s community to receive information and ongoing coaching.
- Access to state-specific information by leveraging the services provided by Vote America
- Register to vote
- Check your status
- See the exact dates for your state
- Find polling locations near you
Additionally, the new site makes it possible to add dates right to your Google calendar, find organizations that can give you a ride to the polls, and find direct contacts for organizers in your area.
This is the second project to launch out of the Work & Co Fund commitment to $1 million in pro-bono design and technology work that advances the Black community. Last month, the Fund was behind the launch of GiveBlck.org.
Work & Co believes the partnership with Woke Vote can have a lasting impact far beyond the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election —setting the stage for other communities to tap into the power of digital to drive more voters. As a result, Work & Co is making the code for the project open source.
Added Snow: “We hope Woke Vote can be re-platformed and used by different causes for future elections, especially organizations aimed at targeting specific populations. The ability to tailor a tool to their brand and perspective makes it more likely that their audience will participate.”
